MAKE A READING BOX
With your child's favorite words and three letter words like cat, dog, fan, etc.
Ask your chid to:
Read a word and make a sentence with it.
Choose three words and make a story with them.
Choose ten words and read them as fast as you can.

Every time you read or write
show it to your child.
Point out how useful reading and writing are in your daily life.
Whenever appropriate include your child in the writing process.
EXAMPLES: writing grocery lists and writing cards to grandparents.
Parents are the greatest role models for children. If you want your child to be or do something, then be
and do it yourself.
If you want your child to enjoy reading then don't forget to share with your child how much you like
the book you are reading.
PHONICS CAN BE FUN!
Just turn it into a game or be enthusiastic about
it.
As a speech pathologist I believe in the importance
of giving kindergarteners a good base in phonological awareness to make them better readers.
Game: Say CAT (the child says cat) Now take away the sound C and put B, what do you get?
(child should say BAT) Use all kinds of combinations
and ask your child to challenge you. This game is about the ability of manipulating sounds in words. You can do the same with
sounds at the end of words and in the middle of words, which is the hardest
